Another sunny Sunday ahead, a friend joined in for a hike. As he's not hiking that often we decided to head up to the Buochserhorn, a long time favorite of mine and a doable hike for everyone. As we arrived at the cable car station of Niederrickenbach we were blown away by the amount of people that were queueing there and we were getting a bit worried that the hike would feel like being on a highway. But once we arrived with the cable car in Maria-Rickenbach all the people scattered and to our surprise we walked alone, almost all the way to the top. The first part of the hike was straight ahead through the forest and we enjoyed the silence, the shade and the fresh air. After about 20 minutes the forest ended and we started to head upwards. The coolest thing about this hike was definitely the view, that was just stunning from the moment on when we no longer had trees around us.
The way led upwards steadily and we took our time talking a lot and admiring the landscape around us. The sun was blazing basically from the start and we were glad that the ascent was not too steep. Reaching the summit about two and a half hours after our start, we first enjoyed the gorgeous panorama, the Alps to one side and the lake of Lucerne to the other side. After that, lunch and a rather warm summit beer awaited us. As we had no hurry at all we even found time for a short nap. :) Once we had enough of doing nothing we started our descent. And this one was really steep just after the summit. Luckily, after that first part, the slope straightened and the rest of the descent was much more gentle. On and around the summit there were quite a lot of other people, but leaving the summit area behind meant also leaving the people behind. We didn't met that many during the rest of the descent and that suited us just right. Arriving back in Maria-Rickenbach around mid afternoon, we took the cable car down and headed back towards Zurich. A nice little hike that was indeed. :)
