Lifetime Projects
Since a couple years I have some ongoing Lifetime Projects. You can find out everything about them below.
Lifetime Project Number 1:
Inspiration for this one came when I read an article in the newspaper about Pascal Bourquin, who's trying to hike every single meter of the official hiking trails in Switzerland. To give you an idea, all trails taken together are about 66'000 kilometers. Quite a lot of hiking indeed. :) At the moment he has done about 24'000 km, which is a crazy amount already. If you want to have a look at his project, you can do so on the following website: https://lavieenjaune.ch/
Since I had read that article in the newspaper, my thought basically was, what he can do, I can do as well. :) And so I'm trying to hike as many kilometers on the official Swiss hiking trails as possible. To me, this is definitely no competition with Pascal (for that he's too far ahead anyway), nor is it the goal to walk absolutely everything, basically I'm just wondering how much I can do in my lifetime. :) Calculating with an average of 1'000 km per year (which is quite a lot already when you have a full time job), it would take me somewhere between 60 to 70 years to complete it all. By then, I would be well above 100 years old, so this whole thing certainly is a challenge, but not one I intend to fulfill. :) Nevertheless, it will take me to places that otherwise I would never have visited and as I want to be a hiking guide someday, this can only be a benefit.
On here, I will update a map every now and then, where you can see how much I walked already. The start of this project was on the first of January in 2023, meaning that all the hikes I've done before, I have to redo at some point in my lifetime. That's something I absolutely can live with though and I'm already curious, how far I'll get with this little challenge. :)
Unfortunately, for the time being, I only have a screenshot available. Actually I had planned to do an interactive map, but as this is more difficult than expected, that project has been postponed. :) If you however want to know where exactly I've been so far and how much distance has been covered, feel free to check out my profile on Komoot, as every hike in the screenshot above is also on there (you can find me under Sam (A Viking is Hiking)). :)
Lifetime Project Number 2:
When I started hiking around in Switzerland, it didn't take very long and I stumbled over a list, while I was searching for some new possible destinations. The list contained 26 of them to be precise and consisted of the highest points of each canton in Switzerland. The idea to complete this list was formed over the years and in the meantime I already have visited about half of them. A few more are definitely possible and I wonder how many of them I can manage. :) So, below you can find the 26 highest points and the date of my visit. Please note that as the cantons of Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Innerrhoden share the same highest point, I thought I include the one of Liechtenstein as well, after all, they more or less belong to Switzerland. :)

Lifetime Project Number 3:
Well, what's coming after all the highest points in Switzerland? All the highest points in the seven countries of the Alps of course. :) Yes, I know, this is quite an ambitious project, as most of them are pretty hard to reach. But what the heck, what is a life without any goals? :) At least a couple of them should be possible anyway and I will definitely keep you up to date if I'm ever going to reach one of them. :)
